Looks like Im having a problem with air preheatters staying on and over heating my Delco 105 amp alternator.
I'm in the SF Bay area and was considering disconnecting the air heaters. Any thoughts on the subject and what is the cleanest way to disconnect heaters before I smoke my alternator.
Thanks Scott

Re: Cummins, 6BTA370
You can simple pull the connectors apart that lead to the heaters.
That's all I did.
This is discussed often in "boatdiesel" and it is very common to unplug them. Their function is to reduce start up smoke.
Once the engine has a few minutes under a slight load it will warm up enough to stop smoking.

There is a blade fuse that protects the switching circuit. Remove the fuse and use the fuse holder to accept male spades wired to a switch at the helm.milhed wrote:...what is the cleanest way to disconnect heaters before I smoke my alternator.
