Yes, that's right, it's for stowing the mast on top of the trailer frame. They're actually made of aluminum diamond plate with HDPE pads. We've never used them except the one time when we first brought the boat home from the seller's place. Mast and rig now sits on sawhorses alongside the house. Maybe someday I'll try stepping the mast, but for now it's way down my list of priorities. The other thing going from the trailer frame & up the side of the hull that may look like wood in the photo is actually the tie down webbing strap.
