anchor roller not tall enough?
I got a used Manson supreme 26lb?
The shank doesn't fit in the anchor roller so I remover the "retainer loop?" that surrounds the shank of the anchor.
What is this think called?
Has anyone had to replace this with a larger one and where did you get it ?
Thanks again

Re: anchor roller not tall enough?
I've replaced mine but I custom made my loop to accommodate a 22lb Bruce. I'll take a picture of the setup tomorrow when I pop down to the boat for lunch.

Re: anchor roller not tall enough?
It's called an "anchor bail"
If you can't find one or don't have the ability to make it any metal shop can bend up a length of stainless flat stock, use your old one as a reference and tell them how much additional height you need.
Here's some shots from when I did mine.

Re: anchor roller not tall enough?
As promised. I've made these changes on mine so I get 100% self launch success. Retrieval is another matter as the rode tends to coil in the locker but it isn't a drama.

Re: anchor roller not tall enough?
thanks again everyone for all the continued help
I have not gotten a larger one made yet. I was thinking it might be ok with out one in fact better because....
Is it ok or" better" to use the chocks on the side if the bowsprit rather than the roller on the front? Would this take some stress off the bowsprit when anchoring?
With no " anchor bail" (thank you) you can do this.
I guess the risk is that with no anchor bail the rode might jump out of the roller and damage all kinds of stuff? or is it not necessary?
also, I just added a swivel and three links ahead of that and this seems to make the anchor (26# manson) launch and retrieve well.

Re: anchor roller not tall enough?
I'd add a swivel but as you can see by the small blue piece of rope, we use a trip system over here as we anchor in rock or hard ground often. As a result, anchors are always being lost without a trip in place. It works by the trip breaking and as a result the anchor comes up backwards, pulling the flukes out of whatever it is jammed in. It's very effective and as a result, I can't remember the last time we lost an anchor.

Re: anchor roller not tall enough?
How often does the trip break unexpectedly?
Is that just a short piece of nylon?

Re: anchor roller not tall enough?
It is a piece of nylon - sometimes cable ties are used but I tend not to use them myself as they degrade in the sun. The trip doesn't break very often at all - you've got to put a fair amount of load on it to snap the rope. I would t use the trip if we were anchoring overnight but in general our fishing here is in 100' of water with around 2-3 knots of tide so to give you an idea how much load it will take.

Re: anchor roller not tall enough?
I had the same issue with our anchor. I removed the bail, drilled new holes above the roller and put the bail back on about an inch above the roller. Took 5 minutes. Issue fixed.

Re: anchor roller not tall enough?
I made a new one for my larger anchor. Bought the flat bar on ebay and bended it then drilled. Pretty easy just lubricate the drill bit as you drill in bursts. You will burn up the bit if you don't take it real slow in bursts.
