Trim tab sizing...

Post by Jeremyvmd »

Has anyone tried to upgrade the trim tabs on a 28te? I think my current ones are 24x9 or 30x9 (can't remember...will check sunday when I go down) and I was thinking of going up to a 12" deep tab to get a little more lifting surface. Has anyone gone from a 9" to a 12" deep tab? Did it make any difference? I know that the width of a tab has more effect on its lift than the depth, but since I can't go wider I was thinking of going deeper...

If i ever need to replace the Trim Tabs on FP2 I would certainly be considering the QL system

If this boat is a recent purchase you might do well to wait until you use it before doing anything to the trim tabs. The Albin 28 requires very little tab to get the proper trim for maximum speed or side to side trim. The ones installed are way more capable than necessary.

I find I use very little tab as well. Mainly for keeping trim port and starboard. I find the best efficiency comes, in general with just a very small bow down adjustment. I keep the fuel tank 1/2 full or more because I find the bigger challenge is to keep the bow up.
Enjoy

Jeremyvmd: For what is may be worth i would not change to other than what the factory put on the boat. That said as long as we can find replacement parts.

Hi I am purchasing a 1994 28 TE with engine box. When the surveyer did his water test he could only get 3000 RPM's at WOT. The max RPM should be 3600 is it nessasary to engage the trim tabs to hit this number?
