We really like the 18" design - it looks great. When we had our A 27 "Willet" we always carried our Dahon folding bikes and after anchoring, we would have to place them in the dinghy for a trip to shore. The 18" design would allow for the best access for getting the bikes out of the aft cabin and onto the deck to the dinghy. We would occasionally have to move something unwieldy onto the boat and that opening would make it easier too. We had our side isinglass/canvass opening made larger for the purpose too when we replaced it. Let us know what you decide to do and show the pictures.

Re: A27 Pilot House modification?
Recently posted on Albin Yahoo group. Although the sides are fabric, the all white gives a pleasant idea of what stern mounted fancy boards might look like. The roof is spot on. Like the color too. I hope my Albin comes out that good.

Re: A27 Pilot House modification?
Latest sketches on the pilothouse. The width is approximately 98" at the centerline and I'm guessing I will need 90" long. That's two sheets of 1/2" coosa board which I will bend to a frame to get the slight camber. I plans to use my "staple & glue" method and then cover with fabric & glass similar to my sailboat pilothouse project.
I've been on top of the existing pilothouse roof several times now during cleaning and it's pretty robust considering my 300lb gorilla carcas was up there. The coosa board will a light but stiff structure. Not sure if I will make the aft roof removeable or glass to the existing room.
