Window Latch

Post by Pasteur »

Does anybody know who manufactured the black plastic latch that secures the forward and aft sliding windows?

The guys at Standish told me that they have a few of these around. With any luck I've found the replacements.

Now that I know a source, how do you install them?

The folks at Standish tell me that the trim piece at the outer edge of the sliding pane can be removed with a bit of effort. Apparently it's held in place by tension - not some sort of glue. Once that's done you can insert the new latch and then put the edge piece back in place.

Keep in mind that I haven't done this (yet). I'll post my results in the near future.

Hi, I'm having the same problem. Can you tell me who "Standish" is? Are they a boatyard or supply house?

Standish Boat Yard is in Tiverton, RI. They were one of Albin's largest and most knowledgeable dealers and one of Albin's lead build foreman works there. There's lots of Albin knowledge at Standish.

Thanks Pitou. I sent a note to the folks at Standish and hoping to hear back from them soon. In the mean time has anyone found a good retrofit for this type of window? I'm sure that even if I find a replacement it will probably break within a few years also. It seems that anytime a piece of hardware functions by bending plastic it's just a matter of time before that plastic breaks. I've done a pretty thorough search myself, and there plenty of pulls that will work but they don't lock, and a few locks that might be ok but no pull/lock combo that seems like it would fit. I posed this question to Standish also and will keep the group informed if they have a useful answer.

The sliding windows on a 31TE. It's the latch for locking the window.

Actually, that latch was from the 28. We moved up to the 31 soon after posting this topic. Ken at Stsndish repaired the latch when he sold that boat so I never had the chance to try and fix it.

Our 31 doesn't have the latches on the windows and they tend to open a bit when We are underway. I forgot all about these latches until I stumbled onto this thread. Glad to learn that they work on the 31, too. I'll give Ken a call to see if he still has spares.
