One More A27 On The Water

Post by Beta Don »

We splashed at the boatyard today - The first time this particular A27 has been in the water in about . . . . 20 years! The trailer looks positively naked sitting in the side yard with no boat on it

Only ran her for about an hour and a half. The little Yanmar is relatively quiet - Much quieter than the 4D61's I've heard. My 'guesstimation' on the prop (a 17 X 12) appears to be spot on. 2100 RPM gets me 6.5 knots, give or take a tenth. Ran her up to 3200 and saw 8.5 or so and the engine wasn't even working hard - I think it would likely go to the 3800 to 4K that Yanmar says it should. A 1000 RPM fast idle is 3 knots - Going to have to shift in and out of gear to go much slower than that

Anyway, BIG day for us! Hope to get out of here in 10 days to 2 weeks and head for Tampa - My son and two of our grandkids are stationed there

Congrats Don, Now you get to see why we love these boats! It's great when things finally come together, especially after 20 years on the hard! Good luck on the trip to Tampa. Ben

Congratulations Don; I am in Florida for the winter with a Albin 25 which I bought last November and hope to get overboard in Tampa Bay in a couple of weeks. I plan to launch out of McDill AFB. Please keep us posted on your trip and perhaps we can share a frosty in some anchorage.

We plan to spend a week or so at the McDill Marina - My son is stationed there. Hopefully we'll be there by mid February, but this entire trip is at the mercy of good weather - We don't plan to travel unless conditions are near perfect

I'am looking forward to seeing your new boat. McDill is a very nice Base, and Tampa bay will be a great ending to your cruise.

Tampa is only the beginning - Key West by March, the Chesapeake in April and with any luck, we'll complete the 6500 miles of the Great Loop and be back in Biloxi by November

Well Done Don.
I still have happy memories of your hospitality in Biloxi.
No buyers for Free State yet though I haven't been trying very hard.
I may be on the water again in March.
Fair winds to you and yours.

Congratulations on launching. Looking forward to seeing some great pix, and hopefully to welcoming you to the Middle Chesapeake when you work your way round. Make sure you let the forum know when you expect to be around Annapolis/Deale.

We are currently under LOTS of snow, but hope to have her unwrapped and in the water by April. Like me, she ain't used to the cold and will no doubt have something to say about how darn cold it is (also like me)

We should be on the Chesapeake by April for sure - We're meeting up with a friend at the Yankee Point Sailboat Marina up the Rappahannock and Corrotoman rivers sometime in early April. He's a local guy who is busy cruising Maine and Nova Scotia during the summer and he put his boat on the hard at Yankee Point and took the winter off to come back home. We'll be working our way up to Annapolis on our way to the C&D Canal, so we should go right by you in late April or early May

There is at least one more non-AOG 27FC in Deale, possibly 2, so a mini-meet might be fun. I'll drop some cards, and make sure the gin-pennant is handy.
