Shifting Hard
I don't recall seeing any discussion on hard shifting so I would like to share my recent experience. I have a 2000 TE 35 with ZF 220 transmissions and had increasing difficulty with shifting the starboard engine. I have the Kobelt 2090 series shifter, which I think is an excellant unit, but it is the first one I have ever had. After checking and lubricating the shifter sprocket, roller chain, and detents at the shifter at both stations I still had the problem. I discovered that at the transmission connection there is a flat plate with ball bearings that go into detents on a mating plate. I spray lubricated where the plates contact each other and shifting became very easy. Many of you probably already know about this, but it was my first experience with this type of shifter--even after owning about six boats including a 39' SeaRay. Anyway I hope this is not to boring of subject to post.
