Beckson Screen Construction
Hi, I read Don's description of how he built replacement Beckson screens. I didn't quite get the details. Can we collect the various methods to cook up replacement screens? Thanks!

Re: Beckson Screen Construction
What I did for mine was remove the screen inserts and clean them up. Get all traces of old screen off. Used that as a template to cut an oversized replacement. Sprayed the inserts with 3m high strength waterproof adhesive and pressed the screens in. Once it dried I trimmed them with a scalpel sharp knife and reinstalled them.

Re: Beckson Screen Construction
So the rounded edge of screen housing faces inwards or outwards?

Re: Beckson Screen Construction
How do you fasten the replacement screen to the plastic frame?

I went so far as to lightly sand the frames too to give the adhesive a lil more bite. Be generous with the spray adhesive and really press and stretch the screens into it.

Re: Beckson Screen Construction
I'm being obtuse. Looking at the frames, the screens are inset (i.e. it appears that there is a 1/8 inch drop from the ridge into the screen bed. How did you press it in? Alternatively, I can see where the glue method works perfectly on the "rounded" side. The screen frame apparently fits into the portlight both ways (rounded in or bedded side in). Does it matter?

Re: Beckson Screen Construction
You press it into the inset section. Right where the screen is currently attached. Your just gluing the new screen in rather than melting it in like the factory did. I would install them rounded side in since that's the way the factory does it.
