I've learned to take a great deal of pleasure in doing maintenance on the boat. But then, in my case, someone else is footing the bill, which takes a lot of the sting out of it.

Hey Almar,

Maybe we can all split the plane ticket and let Mariner come and visit us?

John
This past weekend I took a long hard look at the clum relay. I do not think this is a sensor of any kind, it is strictly a relay. I followed the wires around and it looks like there is a sensor right next to the #1 glow plug in the block. That would make more sense to me to have the glow plug temp. sensor in the block. When I get some time I have a few questions for the guys at Peninsular anyway so I'll ask to be sure. Denis

Denis,
Is that glow plug directly beneath the clum relay? I stopped for fuel on Friday (see other post about slow fill) and the air was still and hot. When I turned the key the light only stayed on for about 1-2 seconds. I poured some water over the clum relay, let it sit for about 3 or 4 minutes and then turned the key again. This time the glow plug light stayed on for about 5-7 seconds. The engine started right up.

John, If you look at my picture of the Beast in the pic section, my clum relay is mounted to the fiberglass engine opening out of the way of the engine. In the upper right corner of the picture. It's partially blocked by the green canvas in the photo. The sensor I am talking about is screwed into the engine block right next to the glow plug.

They are not really close to each other.

Yup. I see what you mean. But, the last two times I had this problem I used a cold-pack out of the freezer instead of pouring water over it. I just set it on top of the clum. Waited 3 or 4 minutes and it started right up. The guy from Peninsular mentioned it could be the relay. (maybe)
I'll take a picture of my setup next weekend. (home now)

If you'll let me take a week on your boat and various weekend outings throughout the year, then sure, I'll gladly take a trip over there to do some routine maintenence and upkeep.
