Hi everyone-

I live in South Florida and am trying to decide between a Mainship Pilot 30 or an Albin 28 TE. Any advice you want to give will be gladly considered. My considerations are fuel economy, an overnight-er, flexibility to fish or just take a short cruse with friends. I mainly joined the group to find details about the 28 TE, including can it accommodate a small generator. My Admiral likes creature comforts away from the dock.

Very tough question. We went through the exact same thought process 13 years ago when we looked at both these models at the Newport boat show. We chose the 28.
Why:
- we felt the 28 had the edge on finish and fit; and styling too, for that matter
- comparative reviews at the time favored the 28, especially for handling in rough, following seas
Looking Back:
- the 28 has been a superb boat
- the best part of owning a boat in this size range is wanting to spend more time on the water, but if you begin to favor cruising, with friends, especially overnighting, size is a big deal
- if fishing is your priority with some day tripping with friends (and very occasional overnighting with close friends/family), the 28 is a great choice
If there are just two of you, you will love the 28 - even on extended over nighters.
Good luck on your decision.
Don.
PS - be sure it has a bow thruster.

Me and the wife just got our 28. But after looking at what's available in the size. We came to the conclusion that the 28te was for us. We had much the same requirements as you do with the added requirement of single diesel. Both of which the 28 has. We also had to have Ac and a genny and some 28te came with both installed from the factory (ours had both)

I have been on both and worked on both the albin is a much better boat for sure , better ride and hull is better sea boat . Mainship had a lot of issues when they moved to Florida ,, the boats warranty was not backed at all . Yanmar got in the middle of a ton of issues and yanmar dealers we right in the middle . Buy a albin better ,
