Awlgrip contractor - Chesapeake

Any recommendations for (or not) a hull painting contractor on the Chesapeake Bay would be appreciated.

Composite Yacht's in Cambridge has painted several members boats here. They did a presentation at the rendezvous and explained the process and different paints. From talking with other vendors, I think they have the best price as well. I am sure a few of our members will chime in with their experience. They are located on the west side of the Choptank right before the bridge on the right hand side if you are headed east. They said once on the schedule it takes about a week from start to finish.

How about pricing? I was just quoted $12,000 to Awlgrip the hull on the 28 TE.
We're located in Cape Coral (Ft. Myers area) Florida.

The price was about $5,200. That included hull, block, clean, remove old name and pinstripe, paint (sand, primer, paint, boot strip), new name and new Albin logo on the side of the pilot house to freshen up the old one. They did exactly what they said they would do, i.e. scheduled a date to drop off, told me two weeks and it was in the water washed and wax. Given the pricing i was quoted elsewhere, you can't beat it.

Wow that's a great price. Might be worth the time and fuel to head down there from jersey! Which blue did u use for the hull?

My hull on the NSC 40 was awl gripped by Hinckley in Rhode Island. I had a few repairs at Comstock in Brick, NJ near where we live. The cosmetic guy there was very much in favor of Imron which is used on Formula boats. It is apparently a lot harder and more durable. I can vouch for the fact that a little contact to awlgrip requires a repair of @ $500. I was hit twice at the dock behind my house by poor boat handlers, and hit and runs. If I were to do it again I would check out Imron. I do not know about cost but I do know Awlgrip is paint and is not real durable. Whatever color you get you will need to use those cloth covers as regular uncovered fenders can scratch Awlgrip. Ask the professionals before you commit, do some homework. I owned an aawlgrip hull for 5- 6 years and it needs TLC including Awlcare wax every year if you want it to last. It is not true that it does not need wax, ask them. It does look great, especially dark colors like flag blue!! It is not gelcoat it is paint.
