Re: Issues with older A 27s
I have a new research project I'm working on related to the Albin 27. I'm looking for a member in the Annapolis, MD area who would be willing to run down a lead I have. It's not that difficult and it will be worth it to the group. I'm too far away from Annapolis and won't be there for several months so I need someone to be my feet on the ground.
If you live in the Annapolis area and can help me out, please pm me for details
Thanks
J

Danny there are many good qualities of the A27 that make putting up with the 30 year old issue worth it.....

Re: Issues with older A 27s
Danny,
The boat to me for the money looks like a bargain as Long as the photos are recent.
I would not waste my money on a survey , for a boat of this value.
JT write up is great, look the boat over well ,you know old boats , look for all the usual stuff. Bring you plastic hammer. And if it runs and drives ,have it lifted out of water to be sure.....
Try and look at another one even if not forsale.
What ever you do don't park it, use it and fix as you go!
At this price you will get your money's worth much quicker that way.

Re: Issues with older A 27s
Danny I'm right down the road (20 mins) from the boat. If you would like to see some before and after boats there's mine... In slip SZ3 at Demens Landing in St. Pete and another in SZ4 right next to mine that he's trying to get rid of. Both will give you an idea of what 5 months of hard labor will do for an Albin. The really great news is that all the parts are fairly easy to find (using this fine source) and you definitely have the whole community available to answer questions. All the folks here have been instrumental in getting mine in the water. These are special vessels. As has been told to me: "If it was perfect, you couldn't afford it". Soooo true. The other benefit you have is that we live in the middle of two giant marine salvage yards (Don's and Marine Liquidators) which have 2-3 Albin's parts scattered betwixt them. If it's still available... Run don't walk to pick up. That price is unbelievable. I'm usually around all day. Feel free to PM me and I'll go with you to look and give you a tour of mine.

Re: Issues with older A 27s
Thanks all. I bought Maxsail's Albin 27 - he posted a thread asking how to move a drive shaft back in order to remove the transmission. I have't really done much since then. The price was good and it is was very close to my place, so a relatively short tow to get it here. Maxsail said the transmission was frozen but the engine (Nissan) turned, but I am not sure of that. I haven't been able to turn it. I have a technician scheduled in a couple of weeks to give me an assessment. Also the hull- deck joint leaks everywhere and has caused some issues I will be addressing, but other than that it is in pretty good shape, especially for the price.

Re: Issues with older A 27s
Congrats on your new boat! Feel free to reach out anytime... I've got enough Albin spare parts to start my own store. Bad habit after researching parts online... Every time I saw something that would "fit" on eBay or CL ild buy it not knowing if it would ever be available again. Visit, DMS in Largo. Many many parts there as well.
