North to the Broughtons, 2015

Here is a photo of the little grizzly once he climbed out of the water. Carol had the wide angle lense on for these, so I had to zoom in during post production to get the image. You can see the unique coloring of the grizzly. He (or she) is going to be huge when full grown.

Nimmo Bay Wilderness Lodge is a very posh lodge which serves as a base camp for some high end adventures. Most in attendance come in on copters and each day they fly out on a copter for the day's adventure. Could be landing on a glacier, photographing bears in the wild, high country trout fishing, or maybe kayaking on the west side (the open ocean side) of Vancouver Island.

The evening starts with hors d'ouvres on the dock, then a four course gourmet meal follwed by after dinner drinks on the dock with a roaring fire.

We love Sullivan Bay. It's been around since the fifties. It burned down a couple of decades ago, but was rebuilt to higher standards. It consists of twenty or so floating homes - rather nice ones at that, a nice marina that is often the jumping of spot for larger yachts headed farther North. There is a general store, a restaurant, and other amenities. Very well run by Chris and Debbie and their crew. Chris is the harbormaster, the chef, and the fishing guide if you want to go get some Salmon and/or Halibut. Its colorful and whimsical. Everyone enjoys their stay.

What a stunningly beautiful place. Lucky you, to be able to cruise through areas like that.
Sounds like you enjoy the wildlife as much as we do. Are the dolphins with the white pigmentation specific to that area? The dolphins around Australia are just the plain grey. Off the coast here, the whales migrate in May to the Antarctic, giving birth on the way.
Interesting that you live in Kingston - maybe they named it after me!!

The Pacific White Sided Dolphins range throughout the North Pacific. They are genetically similar to the Dusky Dolphins of the Southern hemisphere. They are very playful and acrobatic . They love to bow ride . Our encounters with them were most exciting .

Do a search for a YouTube video called Dolphin Joy. It was filmed by some acquaintances of ours . You'get the full experience .

Great Pictures!

We hope (fingers crossed) to return to the Gulf Islands next summer. Would have gone back this year but ended up doing our East Coast cruise on Erie Canal, Block Island Sound, and Chesapeake Bay instead. But that's another story.

In June and July of 2014 we trailered up to Bellingham and did 40 days afloat in the San Juans and the Gulf Islands and went as far North as Ladysmith. While in the San Juans we saw a pod of Orcas off San Juan Island, South of Roche Harbor and Mosquito Pass.

Next year if all goes well we hope to make it as far as Desolation Sound and the Broughtons. Your photos are inspiring. That would be something to see a grizzly bear, preferably from a safe distance.
