Trailer for Albin 27
Hi I have been on a quest for a trailer for the albin27 fc. Have thought of building one I have the skills but not the time this year. What does everyone think of trailers direct out off Florida? They have a aluminum trailer surge brakes on one axel 10500 gvw. $4500 delivered. It is suppose to be custom built for your boat. Advice would be appropriated thanks Chris

Re: Trailer for Albin 27
They have a lukewarm (C+) rating with the Better Business Bureau
http://www.bbb.org/west-florida/business-reviews/boat-trailer-suppliers/boat-trailers-direct-in-plant-city-fl-90128293/complaints
That said, $4500 for an aluminum 10,500 pound trailer custom fitted to your boat sounds like a very fair price to me. As mentioned in the one complaint I think it would be very important to have a knowledgeable person properly adjust the trailer to fit the boat the first time you load it. There will be several adjustments required and it would probably be best to do it at a yard which has a Travel Lift, so you could raise and lower the boat each time an adjustment is made

Re: Trailer for Albin 27
Price is great..actually cheap...(therefore warning)
I have mine on a triple and would never go below a dual with this much weight..(7500# dry for mine)...but I trailer at least 5-6 times a year and usually for 200-300 miles per leg.

I'm from the other camp - I *hate* triples!
With a pair pf 5500 or 6K axles, it's easy to trailer 10,000 pounds on 4 tires - You'll need 10 ply E rated 16 inch tires, but they're easy enough to find.
My brother has a 12,000 pound 5th wheel travel trailer with probably 50,000 miles on it - Two axles, 4 tires, no problems

Re: Trailer for Albin 27
Not recommending triple...it is a little overkill for this boat (got it used from under a 28TE)...but....he is looking at a single and to me that is not a good thing for this size boat. (IMHO)

Re: Trailer for Albin 27
Oh, I agree, wholeheartedly. 6500 pounds of boat and at least 1500 pounds of trailer - You'd have to have some very special (and expensive) wheels and tires to carry that on a single axle . . . . and you'd probably be upside down in the ditch if you ever had a blowout!!coolchange wrote:...but....he is looking at a single and to me that is not a good thing for this size boat. Re: Trailer for Albin 27
Hi thank for the replies. No I was not looking at a signal axel it was a dual axel but only has brakes on one axel is what I was trying to say. Is that even legal? Don't think I have ever seen a single axel 10000 lb small trailer axel. Will let you all know what I decide to do. Thanks chris

Re: Trailer for Albin 27
Chris, Different states have different laws concerning required brakes. Most require brakes on all axles, some require brakes on at least two axles within our weight range. If you're contemplating over the road travel for any appreciable distances, I'd recommend brakes on all axles. Ben

Not to post on an older thread but are you referring to boatmaster out of Florida? If so I cannot say enough good about them! My dad has one under a large whaler and it's an amazing peice

Re: Trailer for Albin 27
Hi Jeremy it was boattrailerdirect.com. Iam rebuilding a trailer in my yard that had a thirty foot sale boat on it. So I decided to not to buy one. For about $400.00 in metal I can just fix this one and pull it with my tractor. It will look a little funny since it is an equipment trailer. But it will work for know.

Gotcha...sounds like a plan! Allways good to save a few shekels! If you ever need a trailer they are pricey but there isn't a trailer out there like a boatmaster...

You could make a stand like this on a recent posting for a boat for sale
And then put on the flat bed trailer you have.

Re: Trailer for Albin 27
Hi Warren I got my boat him today. It pulled like a dream I pulled it with my pickup all back roads. I have to do some adjusting on the trailer. But it is home a lot easier to work on. I like the cradle I did much the same just welded 11/2 inch pipe to the deck and braced it not very pretty some day I will have time to paint something. It cost me about $300.00 to get everything up and running not including the $1500.00 mig welder. After I started on the project I found someone that would of moved it for 250.00. How are your projects coming?

Re: Trailer for Albin 27
Great! The perfect solution to have at home...did you unload the cape dory?
I have been tracking down an possible engine issue.....I think I have a solution..possible internal coolant leak!
Annoying as no point doing the cosmetic stuff if the lump has a problem!
I'm finally getting my oversize garage fixed up and raised so I can finally get the boat under cover......
Then I have no excuses!

I have a trailer set up for a 84FC. It needs some rehab, but its in Palm Harbor (W of Tampa on Gulf). Boat has been on the hard for 6 years. You can bet that it needs some TLC (Boat AND trailer).
