Especially not if you've been drinking.
Saturday night, as the wind was building in Eastern Washington, my friend's small metal river sled broke free of it's mooring in Vantage on the Columbia River. He decided to go swimming after it in the 46 degree water, after what I'm sure was more than one or two beers. As darkness fell, the campers on the beach could hear his screams for help, but couldn't locate him. The divers still have not found his body in the deep reservoir, having suspended the search due to high wind.
Alcohol and swimming just don't mix.

It's always sad to hear that kind of story. Worse when it's a friend.
My condolences...
John
