Hi All,
I have an Albin 28 TE with Peninsular diesel and Hirth transmission. All good until I arrived back from Newport today and noticed a slight clunking in reverse going into the dock. Any thoughts?

Re: Clunk when in reverse Hirth tranmission
Idle higher than normal? Maybe not enough neutral time before going into reverse? (prop still spinning forward).
Maybe a damper plate starting to show some wear? (you'd have to remove the tranny to know that).
Run it in the slip to see if the noise repeats.

Thanks!
First, I'm going to check to make sure nothing is fouled on prop, then check idle and adjustments. The good news is that she seems to run perfectly fine in forward. Will keep you posted as I did into it.

Worried about the tranny and then took my sage neighbor's advice which is: take an aspirin first before you do do the surgery. Jumped over the side and found the spur on the prop had worked itself lose and was clunking when the reverse prop wash kicked it back against the stop on the casting. Was able to secure it back in place and solve the issue.

Sounds like you just had the most refreshing swim of the season! Glad it all worked out.
