Water lift muffler
Does anyone know what metal was used for the water lift muffler on a 1987 Taiwanese trawler? Welder was not able to weld hairline crack at the base. Seems like some word alloy.

Re: Water lift muffler
I have a 1988 40 Albin....my waterlift is fiberglass....
Maybe time to switch if the welding isn't going well.

Re: Water lift muffler
My 83 looks to have a stainless muffler. Not sure of the particular grade.
8 years ago it appeared to be weeping from the base weld.
I cleaned it well and epoxied a huge fillet over the weld all around.
It has not leaked since.
If/when it does I will without a doubt go fiberglass.

Re: Water lift muffler
Mine appears to be stainless as well but the welder tried two different 'things' and wouldn't try a third since it was foreign. I trusted the welders judgement considering he welds nuclear subs. I used Marine-Tex around the entire base weld and haven't had any more problems. And if you've gotten 8 years, I don't feel rushed to replace the muffler! I emailed Vernalift to see if they can fabricate one made out of FRP.
