Two Albin 25s meet by chance on the Erie Canal

Post by DesertAlbin736 »

There we were this past Tuesday, aboard La Dolce Vita, motoring Westbound on the Erie Canal between Lyons, NY & Fairport, NY, just opposite Midlakes Marina, when we saw another boat approaching Eastbound. Lo and behold it turned out to be another Albin 25, "Flika", a 1970 model belonging to Craig Erickson. He was headed in to his regular slip in Midlakes Marina. So we pulled in to a nearby slip and had a friendly meet & greet chat, comparing notes on what we had each done to customize our boats. We only saw five or six other boats going up or down the canal, and one turned out to be an Albin 25.

In five days we transited 11 locks between Seneca Lake and Fairport, returning back thru those same 11 locks on our way back to the launch ramp.
There was only one time out of 22 lock transits where there was even one another boat in the lock at the same time, and that was one of those u-drive-it rental barges.

We made the same trip westbound in 2012, but we didn't see any Albins!

We were on a schedule to visit friends in Westerly, RI where we are now, so we only had time to sample the Erie. Then it's on to the Chesapeake Bay later this month.
