Water and holding tank replacement and relocation

I have ripped out my holding tank and water tank. I want to replace them any suggestions. I was thinking about moving them aft I am removing the fuel tank to clean it wanted to place the new tanks port and starboard of the fuel tank. I think I can get a 35 gallon tank in there. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks chris

I put a pair of Todd 15 gallon tanks in parallel in the same location as the original water tank. I also installed a Todd 20 gallon holding tank under the starboard settee - I have a mini diesel genset in the engine room where the original holding tank used to be. The Todd 20 a good fit, being almost exactly the same length as the locker and it's only 10 inches high, so you don't lost too much storage. You could put two of them stacked one above the other under the port settee if you wanted to increase water capacity to 40 gallons, but you'd also be giving up most of your storage space

Hi Don thanks for the reply. I was just wondering if any one else has put tanks there. Was it hard to plumb your head to the starboard tank? I was trying to free up space in the engine room for another battery and a water heater. What type of head do you have? Thanks again chris

I have an electric head. The plumbing wasn't all that difficult, but the downside is the hose from the head to the tank is now much longer and that hose is usually the source of most head odors. I do have an overboard macerator pump to empty the tank as well as the usual thru deck pump out fitting - It was a bit tight getting all those big hoses in place and run through the engine room bulkhead - You'll spend several hours in some pretty tight quarters

I think there is plenty of room on the starboard side engine 'shelf' for both a good sized holding tank and a 6 gallon water heater. I would try to keep everything in the engine room if you can - That will make things much simpler. I have a genset and a water heater squeezed in there. If you're willing to do a bit of construction, it is possible to put four 6 volt golf cart batteries in the usual location to the port side of the engine which will give you two house banks of 200 AH each. You can start the engine using those same batteries
