Overland transport
Does anyone have experience using U-Ship to transport Albins between States? I am naturally wary of auction-type sites, but any insights would be welcomed.
Looking to ship a 27FC.
Thanks for the inputs.

Re: Overland transport
Yes! Mine was shipped using U Ship from Sandy Hook yacht sales to Baltimore docks and the shipper even made the cradle which worked perfect for its transatlantic trip.

Re: Overland transport
The buyer of my 28 used UShip from Boston to San Francisco. Bids came in form $7,500 for a 2500 HD pick-up truck and a trailer to $10,500 for a tractor and hydraulic trailer (a real rig). The buyer went with the pick-up truck option and all arrived safely. Things scary as I saw it loaded and depart . I would would have gone for the $10,500. Life's all about choices.

Re: Overland transport
Used twice...once for a trailer to be moved from SoCal to Bellingham...flawless. and another time to move a Bayliner 2855 from Portland to Alaska ferry docks...also trouble free. I did make a point of interacting with the drivers and would have had no problem backing out if I felt the equipment or the drivers were suspect....so always watch out for your own interests.

Re: Overland transport
I used UShip and was ripped off. The guy also ripped a young French lady who could barely afford shipping to Miami at the same time. Uship was worthless to help but i found another guy to drag it behind his Astro Van (19' Twin Vee) for a few thousand. For my Albin, try Corey at 425-508-0802. Very reasonable prices and good to work with. He owned a boat business up here and sold out, sailed a couple years with his family and opened a boat transport business. Hopefully he's still doing it. Haven't talked with him since i transported my boat.

Re: Overland transport
In the spring of 2012, we successfully used a guy I found on U-Ship to transport our boat from Deltaville to northern VT. He used a triple axle 35' trailer rated for 18,000 lbs. and towed it with a 1-ton dually. I wouldn't hesitate to use him again. Chris Hanna. http://www.palmettoyachtmanagement.com/transport/

Re: Overland transport
I received bids from u-ship then choose a local guy who actually bid on it. Our broker also knew him. It was OC Boatmovers and Shane was his name. I got to ride with him half way up and back. He had a trailer he added a 4th special axle to take Keel vessels. They move all over the place and made room for me in their yard so I could get the below water line work done before splashing in Dana Point. Great experience. U-ship had several people quoting and they are independent contractors that pay a commission to use U-ships site. They are supposed to carry appropriate insurance etc.. I would not have a issue using their service, but meet your hauler and have a dialog before to make sure you are on the same page with expectations.
