Just an off chance. AFI 1000

Post by Tree »

Evening guys. While out 28 miles on Sunday in pretty snotty conditions, we had quite a good size wave hit the windows and in the process it took out the middle wiper motor. Today I stripped the motor to find that the plastic gear has stripped a few teeth. Obviously with the greater load and the pantograph wiper modification it was just too much! Now my question is, does anyone have a wrecked motor out there that I can use for parts? Or does anyone have a motor kicking about where they have upgraded in the past? Although marinco parts are available here, today I have found that motors are an astronomical price over other brands and I don't really want to replace the motor only for it to happen again, assuming that I get unlucky like Sunday.

If anyone has anything, please let me know and I will happily bank transfer or PayPal the costs over before I take the plunge and upgrade to a different brand.

Cheers

Lee :
Consider the AFI model 2000. I believe it's the HD version of the model 1000. They look very much alike so you wouldn't have to change our all three units. With the extra load of the pantograph configuration you'd be better off with the HD model. I have the 2000's and the pantograph configuration and have taken several " big hits " w/o any problem.

Many thanks for the heads up Don, I have located one at a good price in Alaska if they will ship to the UK.

However, i have just had an email from Marinco tech support and they say the 2000 HD is now the 1.5 http://www.marinco.com/en/71081

Just so happens I have found that model here http://www.aquafax.co.uk/html/product_s ... p?ID=28565 about 18 miles away  . Its a bit pricey at £180 but it is the exact right one for the job

Turns out I do have the 2000 heavy duty models. Four lines on the case instead of three distinguishes which type it is. I ordered the new 1.5 version but it has arrived and is only a 1" shaft instead of the 2.5" shaft as listed. So for the one being, I have removed the plastic gear and rotated it 180° and so far it seems to work fine. I shall still replace it regardless as the 1.5 is designed for a 22" arm and 22" blade. It is also two speed so I may also change the switch for a double pole switch making full use of the two speed wipe.
