Scupper drains

Post by Denis »

I have a question, if anyone can shed some light on for me.
I have a 28'TE. The two scuppers in the rear of the boat have a small pocket that collects water before it fills enough to flow overboard.
My question is why do they have the outlet pipe an inch or two above the water collection area. It seems to me all this does is allow water to sit there and turn green. I put bleach in there every week to keep it clean. In the winter it collects water and freezes. I am very tempted to fill that area with epoxy up to the bottom of the outlet pipe. Can anyone tell me why they did that or why I shouldn't fill up to the bottom of the pipe?
Thanks Denis 8)

An excellent question for Andrew. I've wondered about myself on our 32; same problem. I've thought about keeping a couple of minnows in there so we don't have to keep going back to the baitwell. They're the hardest part to keep clean :x What would you use as a filler?

I was going to ask the fiberglass tech. at my marina but I suppose it would be an epoxy of some sort. I kind of like the bait idea you had, it's more convienent than the bait well!
