A27 Hull Color

Post by don123 »

I searched all over the place trying to find any info I could as to how to mix up a batch of paint to closely resemble the color of the hull and didn't find anything

We're about to paint our new hardtop and swim platform, so today we started mixing. I thought the hull was on the brown side of white, so I began with a quart of Interlux Brightside White and a quart of Hatteras Off White, since I knew from previous experience that the latter is a pretty brown shade of white. A 1 to 1 mix was still way too brown, but a 2 to 1 mix (2 parts white to 1 part off white) is pretty darned close - Hard to say exactly because I'm sure it depends on how old your boat is, how often it was waxed, how sunny your climate is, which side of the boat faced the sun, etc, etc . But, for our old tub at least, it's a pretty darned close match and very easy to do - No complicated tinting

I'll bet it will look good when you are done. You know it's right when you set in the water front establishment looking out over the boats on the hook and your eye is drawn to yours.
