How to find build evidence for my 1999 Albin 28 TE
The current COD for my Albin has an operational endorsement of "recreational". The restrictions state : "no fishery and no coastwise- because build evidence not presented".
I want to use the Albin with a 6 pack. Coast Guard told me today that I need original build evidence to change the operational endorsement to- Coastwise and fishery endorsements.
Can anyone out there PLEASE help me with this. Who can I contact to find out where the Albin was made.
What should I do next?
Where can I find someone who worked at Albin to build my 1999 28 TE?
I appreciate your advice!

Re: How do I find build evidence to change operational endor
They are looking for the "Build Certificate" which was in the possession of the original selling dealer and most likely given to the original owner for filing if the boat was ever documented.
With Albin now defunct the odds are slim to none that you can obtain a duplicate from "the manufacturer". Sorry for the bad news, but I've been chasing my tail on this too with lots of promises from the original Albin selling dealer with no results.

Re: How do I find build evidence to change operational endor
Can you have someone come do a post build certificate?
I had to do similar over here to obtain a CE certification as Albin's were not produced with them.

I used a company called http://www.americansportsboat.com (I think that's the name off the top of my head) but without knowing the legislation over there in the US I wouldn't know who to speak to about it

Just a thought - are you a member of BOAT/US? I wonder if they would have any leads.

Re: How do I find build evidence to change operational endor
I think there is a misunderstanding here. The "6 pack" is Operator of an Uninspected Passenger Vessel. If you want Fishery or Commercial you are entering a new arena where we could not qualify. An inspected vessel is an Offshore trawler, scalloper, dragger, etc. Commercial would be shuttles, commuter boats etc. CG inspection would require things not possible like waterproof bulkhead doors, sprinklers, lifeboats etc. My documentation says recreational and that is what taking 6 people out for a fishing charter is considered. Did the CG understand you are a small non commercial boat? This is my personal opinion I will ask a friend in CG too.

Craig- What did you find out from your friend on the change of documentation? or if we can use the current recreational COD for 6 pack tours?
We have our Albin in Stonington, Maine now. We skippered her back from Port Washington, Long Island, NY to Stonington May 2 & 3. 19 hours in 1-3' and an occasional 5' to make it interesting.

I have the same issue and feel your pain.... I tried calling Standish boat yard who I believe bought the albin hull design but they were not able to help with the build evidence. There is a company that advertises their services on the Coast Guard website that will survey your boat and give you a build evidence. However I think it's $500 for their services. If you're interested I can try and find you the information. Hope this helps and if you find another way please let me know.

Wouldn't hurt to make a call to new england marine documentation. They are very knowledgeable and chances are they have come across these issues. Google them for contact info.

Re: How to find build evidence for my 1999 Albin 28 TE
You're right Rob NE Marine is knowledgeable and have been around. I used them to document my current Albin and the previous Albin. I wanted recreational documentation with a fisheries endorsement and got it on the 28 as the original owner had documented the boat and turned in the "Original" build certificate. On the new boat I was unable to obtain the "Original" Certificate and NE Marine said I'm SOL. For fisheries and I believe Coastwise endorsements no ticky, no tacky to ensure only US built boats can operate under commercial / fisheries under US Documentation. The option is to drop the documentation and register under your state and then permits for at least fisheries are obtainable. I'm not sure about running as a passenger vessel.RobS wrote:Wouldn't hurt to make a call to new england marine documentation. Rich .. I went to the USCG documentation site looking for the ad and came up empty. If you have more info I'd appreciate it if you could pass it along. ... Currently my 130's are collecting dust without the fisheries endorsement.addon323 wrote:I have the same issue and feel your pain.
