3rd bad oil pressure sender

new 310 hp peninsular. the engine has two senders, one for the light (10 psi near the turbo) and one for the gage (on the block). last year the gage would become erratic around 2800 rpm after about 1/2 hour operation. replaced the sender...same problem. i put a meter across the sender and disconnected 12vdc. the ohm meter indicated the same unstable resistance at the same rpm.it would become stable with a small thottle modulation either way...

this year, with the third peninsular supplied sender...same thing after 1/2 hour.
seems to me it has to be the sender because i can see the resistance become unstable with no voltage applied...

the 10psi light works fine, by the way
...
any inputs before sending a really nastygram to matt koening at peninsular?

I guess I'd ask them who OEMed the senders - and ask for one from someone else since they're not holding up!

Do you happen to know which one activates the low pressure alarm? When I run hard and then back down quickly my oil pressure alarm goes off. If I throttle up just a bit it will shut off. A bit disconcerting until you get used to it...

That's interesting Ed, since when the alarm goes off I'm usually looking at the gauge and wondering why it's going off. I didn't realize I was getting the pressure from two different locations. Now I wonder if I should be more concerned than I have been...

here's what happened to me...

..the shop had improperly installed the replacement sender for the gage. there was a small leak at the base of the sender on top of the block. the gage read okay, but the leak apparently resulted in a pressure drop at the sender for the light (go figger.). this may be cause for concern because that's where the turbo is. so if the light is on but the gage is good, you may still have inadaquate oil pressure for your turbo. check for any fresh oil around the top of the block.
