And it's time to talk dates and locations!
Hey all!
Enjoying yet another blast of Mother Nature's wintery best?
Time to start talking dates and locations for this year's NE AOG Rendezvous!
Since I was "appointed" chair for this year's event I'm sure you all understand that I'll be looking for a date the allows my beautiful Admiral to come along (Yes Marcia, she exists!!). I'm waiting on our club social committee to announce the date of the annual clambake - that's likely the only "blackout" date I'll have, with the possible addition of the St. Vincent's "Swim Across the Sound". I'm aiming for late June through July. Want to make sure the kids are all out of school and the days are nice and long.
As for location - I'd love to try someplace new, but some of the past spots were very nice as well. General guidelines would be:
Accessible via reasonable voyage from Long Island Sound, South Shore, and the Cape
Dock space for ~20 Albins (and of course Friends of Albins / Former Albin Owners!!) of mixed size in close proximity to each other (enhances the docktail hours!) (This means you RobS and RicM and anyone else who wants to join us!)
Pool and/or other kid friendly activities
Space for our Saturday night Pot-Luck
Easy access to town for provisioning, exploring, adult refreshment
So, let's hear from you. Where do you want to go?

Re: And it's time to talk dates and locations!
I feel for you guys in New England this winter. Before I moved to Arizona in the late 1970's I lived near Saratoga, NY. Been through many cold, snowy winters in that part of the country, and been to Boston in the winter. We had some rough ones back then, but nothing like what's gotten dumped on the NE this year.
Ever since then my motto is "I don't do winters". Sure, it gets hotter than Hades here in the summer. I've seen it get up to 120 degrees a time or two. That's the exception, but almost every year we get a few hot spells where it hits 115 or 116. But, as the saying goes around here, you don't have to shovel heat. So now days, when June and July rolls around, it's time to pack up the boat and head for the coast. San Diego is the closest to us, but the San Juans are the West's version of Maine and New England, in my opinion the best cruising on the West coast. But this time it's week or so on the Erie Canal on the way to New England for us.

Re: And it's time to talk dates and locations!
Doug,
At the New York Boat Show I talked to Josh Bagnati of Brewer Pilots Point Marina, 63 Pilots Point Drive, Westbrook, CT.
Tel: 860-339-1800 Cell: 860-227-6925
He indicated the Marina could accommodate the Group with all the amenities. Worth checking out??
He also said Essex Island is undergoing renovations ,another thought.
The Joint Venture will go to any suitable destination of your (or the majorities choice).

Re: And it's time to talk dates and locations!
Pilot's Point seems like a certainly good suggestion.
The Marina at American Wharf could be as well. Their big concrete floaters would accommodate docktail hour very well. Other than Dunkin Donuts the town does not offer much but the marina bar/restaurant overlooking the docks is nice and there is the free shuttle to Mohegan.
Keep us posted on the dates as soon as you know.

We are at the Mohegan Sun, here's the view of the Thames Rvr from the hotel, well we can cross American Wharf off of the list if this doesn't thaw out by June or July!RobS wrote:Pilot's Point seems like a certainly good suggestion.

Rob, your boat can break the ice for us to get in there, right?

Seems like this year would be the Holy Grail for ice boaters!

Yikes! I hope it does thaw by early June. That could really screw up or plans for Rhode Island!

Re: And it's time to talk dates and locations!
Off topic, but did anyone see the Great Llamas On The Loose Escapade in Sun City, AZ on the news recently? We live about 10 miles North of that neighborhood.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Cd0_3g6TvM
Notice all the green grass (some probably fake) and the chasers all dressed in slacks and short sleeves? That's pretty much what our winter has been like, although it's cooled off to around 60 today with clouds and rain in the desert and snow in the high country as a Pacific Low sweeps through. We were supposed to do a raftup at the lake this weekend but it got canceled due to weather.

Anybody have thoughts about the Chesapeake Bay, say in the Deale-Annapolis-Kent Island region?

Sure. It would be called the Chesapeake Rendezvous! And we happen to have one of those. Bit of a trip for us Northeastern folks.DCatSea wrote:Anybody have thoughts about the Chesapeake Bay, say in the Deale-Annapolis-Kent Island region?

Re: And it's time to talk dates and locations!
There will never be a unanimous vote on location, didn't A. Lincoln say that at one time?.
MTOA has their Northern Rendezvous September 29 to October 1 in Cape Charles VA. Too far a hike for us in the Northern Chesapeake and still working. About 120mi from the Bay Bridge (and we're another 25mi from there) to Cape Charles.
If anyone cares the MTOA has a schedule of events for the Chesapeake (northern) as follows;
June 27 – July 11 Al
Cruise to Nowhere Potomac River
July 10-12
End of June CTN St. Mary’s Concert Weekend
July 31-Aug 2
Cruise Rock Hall
Aug 14-16
Cruise Bohemia River
August 17 - Sept 1
Cruise to Nowhere (CTN) New York City
Complete schedule on MTOA.net, Regional Groups.
If anyone can come up with a 'meld' around the CBC, we're probably interested.

Holy Moly! I'm out of Barnegat Inlet. All the locations (by my WAG) are two hundred miles one way.
Does anyone ever meet up around central / southern Jersey?
AC and Cape May are great places.
