I guess they are going to get the cars off first, if they dig a channel and float it, it will roll over again. You never know there might be a car or two going free. Don`t know if my davits would hold a car LOL.

It is a third full with Rolls Royce's and luxury cars of that nature. The chances of digging a trench for it to roll into will be nil, games of cricket are played on the Brambles Bank during the big spring tides in the summer!

Are the cars in containers or strapped down? That ship looks so top heavy it is a wonder it can withstand a storm at sea.

1400 landrover and Jaguars apparently.

Russ, it's the same design ship that FP2 was delivered from Baltimore to Southampton on. Almost certainly the same route.

Well we've got a big gale for the next few days and unluckily for the salvagers the ship has drifted off the Brambles Bank where it was resting. A combination of wind and spring tides saw it swing round and slide off the bank. It's currently heading east now with four large tugs attached to it where they will hold it in deep water off of Spithead. I assume that there they will assess the situation and try to pump ballast into the opposite side to bring it upright.

Can't see it happening anytime soon with the weather and when they do it's going to be an epic task. The last ship of this design to roll over was called the Tricolor enrouter from Bremerhaven to Baltimore. That ship came to rest on a sandbank in the English channel in the busiest shipping lanes in the world. The only way to remove that one was to cut it up with abrasive cables and rove it section by section. The process took two years.

We have been following your posts and those online. Some neighbors shipped their 30 foot sailboat to the Caribbean on a similar vessel a few years ago and sailed back. Amazing how large those ships are. If there are some Jags on sale after this one gets back to port, maybe it would be worth a visit to the UK to get one! :-)

Not too long ago and I don't remember exactly where I read about another car carrier and a salvage operation.

During this operation one man died in a slip on the deck as it was cantered over. Slid down it hitting a bollard or 2.

The salvage operation was due to a problem with the ballast tanks which inadvertently transferred the sea water to one side.

The salvers refloated the boat in a few days, I think the whole process took less than 2 weeks.

I also forget if the cars, over 2,000 of them, were Toyotas or similar, but ALL of the cars were put through a huge shredder.

The car company felt that all the cars being on the angles they were, and while they are secured there were some which broke loose and collided with other, could not be assured they would meet the warranty requirements therefore the shredding.

Don't count on any free cars.
Calm seas,

Charles

That carrier was the one full of Mazda's I think?

They scrapped the cars, despite them being perfect due to leaks from the batteries in the engine bays - this one here is full of luxury cars set to go out to the far east - anything from between 30 million and 100 millions pounds sterling in value.

Heavy weather tonight - winds to a possible 100 mph. I managed to see the Hoegh Osaka yesterday in daylight for the first time, did try to get some photos but only had my iPhone on me and sunlight directly in the shot!.

I really wouldn't be surprised if this thing just rolls over without warning.

Just getting word in from locals - apparently the salvage company has been told if there is a risk to life then to let the ship go tonight during the storms which will see it on the beach very quickly.

Also, it has come to life that decks 1 and 2 are flooded where the 1400 cars are.
