28 TE carpets

Post by wixie »

Where can I get a new carpet set for my 2003 28TE and I would also like to buy a wooden steering wheel like I saw on a 2007

I also saw a teak and holly sole on the 2007 are they available?

I don't believe you'll find anyone selling pre-made carpet. If you still have the old carpet, it can be used as a pattern for the new. You'll probably want to have the edges of the new carpet bound. In my opinion, snaps aren't necessary.

Teak and holly soles are custom installed.

I don't know about the steering wheel.

I replaced the carpeting on our 2001, 28TE two years ago. Nancy is correct, you must have a pattern. Our old carpet was in too poor shape so I spent a day and a half making a new pattern. I used the "red paper" roll ( sorry I forgot the correct name) that carpenter/contractors use to protect floors. It's available at Lowes. I strengthened all edges with gorilla tape; both sides. The cockpit pattern was in two pieces, one large piece to cover the entire cockpit except under the helm area foot rest; that was a separate piece to allow access to the battery compartment. Access to the port and starboard deck boxes along side the engine box is simply a matter of lifting the carpet. No snaps necessary on the large piece. The raised area in front of the chart table was separate too; suggest two snaps to hold it in place.
The cabin has two pieces - one under the table (and it will need snaps in the back as well as some to wrap the front down to the cabin sole. The single large sole piece could also use snaps. As Nancy mentioned, all the pieces should be bound. The company I used was Corinthian Marine Carpet, Portland OR. EXCELLENT carpet quality.Cost Jan 2012 : $1400.

I shall be doing mine in the spring - the original carpet is nothing special and a good hard wearing industrial style carpet is fine. Cost here in the UK to have the shape cut and the edges bound is about £100 for both interior carpets.

Ideally I would prefer Tek Dek rubberised teak effect flooring and that may yet be an option.

The original wood helm wheel with the Albin logo in it was sourced though Vetus. It is still available in thir catalog, but minus the Albin logo.

I did away with the carpet last year and had this installed. So far very happy with it. Easy to clean and no maintenance! Had a local distributer supply and install. Will take a picture when I am down at the boat this weekend.

5 years ago, I did the same as Carl. Teak & holly (synthetic). Totally maintenance free and NOT slippery when wet, while in bare feet! Looks and performs great....we love it!!!
There ought to be a law that says,"No carpets on boats".
Perhaps.......there already is!!!!!!

Carl,

How is the teak and holly held in place ?

I cut and installed my own carpets (and snaps) as a temporary solution but would like to do the teak and holly.

Thank you

I did not do the install. I had a local rep for nuteak supply and install. If you follow the link below, you should be able to see if they have someone in your area. If not, you can purchase and do it yourself if you are handy. The product is in strips, and they made a template out of heavy construction paper, glued the strips together to create a sheet, then cut to the pattern. It is glued down to the floor. As said above, it is not slippery even when wet, and cleans up easily.

That looks fantastic! Can you provide a ballpark price for that project?

Did you find the carpets for your 28 TE. I made some and can cut them out for you. I only have Navy Blue material. You will need to install your own snaps, easy to do. You may need to trim a little.
