Pronounciation Al-bin or All-bin

Post by Cape Codder »

Here's today's dumb question:

I am about to close on a 2003 28 TE.

Is it pronounced Al-bin, or ALL-bin?

Thanks,
Bob

pronounciation

Either I mumble, or folks around here are partly deef. I pronounce it Al-bin so the locals don't confuse it with allmand. And NEVER say albie or they'll assume you mean an Albermarle :~)

Not dumb question at all. I asked the same thing about 18 months ago!
ALL-bin is what I was told. I have heard it both ways.

I say "all-bin" because it just rolls off the tongue easier. I have no idea what it's actually supposed to be. I'm sure Andrew could tell us how they say it at the factory.

This reminds me of how everyone was calling it the Chevy "Im-pall-uh" for decades and then when they reintroduced it, the ads said it "Im-pal-uh" and everyone went "huh? Chevy doesn't even know how to pronounce the name of their own car?"

Say it like it is

If they wanted people to sat "All-bin" they should have spelled it Allbin. If your name is spelled A L then you are Al, right?

I'm still saying ALL-bin. But from now on I'm going to call my good friend Al All! :D

Well, just for kicks, I called Albin in Cos Cob, and the gentleman answered, "Al-bin" Marine.
So I said, "so that's the right pronounciation...AL-bin?"

He's says, "Well, some of us say ALL-bin too!" "I say tomAto, you say tomato!!"

So it's "dealers choice" I guess!

Over the weekend, I found myself saying "al-bin" more than "all-bin" when talking about the boat. So, to be honest, I'm not really sure which is right.
