Shoot through hull transducer

Has anyone used a 'shoot through' transducer on the Albin 27 fc? Is it for sure that the hull is solid and not cored? I've tried one from Lowrance ( shoot through) on the port side near the bulk head where the bottom flattens and it will not carry a signal.
Any help/advice will be appreciated.

Vic, My "87 is cored in that location. I bedded my transducer in a silicone blob at the bottom of my keel, on the flat surface. It works great. I believe most of the hulls are cored . The only way to mount a thru-hull transducer in your location is to grind away the inner glass layer of about a 3-4 inch circle, carefully cut out the balsa core being careful not to penetrate the outer layer of glass, and then layer some glass over the area so it's no longer a cored spot. You can then mount your transducer. Recommend you do this when you're out of the water. I'll be doing this on mine for my second transducer this fall when I pull her out. The only thing you have to remember,if you use a silicone blob, is to ensure you don't have any bubbles in the silicone under the transducer. You can avoid this by rolling the transducer into the silicone and then press it straight down to the glass. Give it a couple of days to cure before you bump it, but it will work immediately after you put it in. Also be sure the area is clean and dry before you put the silicone down. Ben

My 27FC had two in-hull transducers installed in the bilge area accessible through the access hatch in the hanging closet. Both were epoxied in - one worked and one didn't. As far as I could tell both installations should have worked equally well. There was also an unused thru-hull transducer in the engine compartment near the water tank. I ended up removing it and replacing it with an Airmar P319 transducer which works well. The hardest part of the new installation was making the hole about 3/16" larger. It had to be done with a Dremel as I could not find a large enough step bit. The hull in that area is solid and not cored.
