Help with water heater?

Post by JT48348 »

I scored a used water heater. Supposed to be in ok shape, 6gal stainless tank and housing. The thermostat and heating element were reportedly replaced and it had a gasket leak, which I am taking care of. Can anyone identify the brand maybe? Came off a 40ft british made sailboat in the US but tank is supposed to be American made, but company (unknown name) now out of business. Maybe it doesn't matter anyway.

I want to bench test the water heater and see if it works. I have some fittings lying around and I know how to connect the plumbing. What I don't know is how to connect it electrically. There are two terminals on the thermostat and two terminals on the heating element. The element and thermostat are jumpered together , leaving one terminal apiece free. I have a 110v cord. What do I connect where?

Inside inner stainless front cover, removed, there is a marking in pen XXIV-29 no other markings anywhere.

thanks for your help

My understanding is its not made anymore since the company is out of business. But that looks similar. My guess is they are all fairly similar in concept.

The cover that goes on it has none of the bells and whistles on the one displayed, although general putputs etc are similar config

It also looks very similar to the seaward water heater. The parts should be available from most plumbing stores as most of the fittings will be BSP threads. One thing to consider, the heating element may be 240v if it's come from a British built yacht.

Success! No leaks and gets hot in about 15-20 min. Really a nice set up. Very similar to seaward design but parts are available thru amazon.

Plan to size up so may not keep it. Will list in swap thread if it has to go. Thanks again
