House battery bank

Post by Pete »

I have a 28te with two dual purpose group 27's , does anyone have a house bank in addition to these? Where did you install them?

Hey Pete -

My 28TE has 4 batteries total.

1 8D starting battery located forward on the port side of the engine.
2 6v batteries opposite on the starboard side (house & inverter).
1 Group 31 located under the helm running the electronics.

Hope this helps -

We have three Group 27 deep cycles in the center bilge on the shelf under the helm chair.

Thanks, under helm shelf doesn't look large enough for three unless they are turned sideways, maybe that's the way to squeeze in a third,

Pete,
You can create a house bank of 3 and starting bank of 1 turned sideways as I did using Gp 31 AGM's. Was tight and took some "engineering" but was most definitely was worth it. With the 3 Gp 31 AGM's for our house bank I installed a 2000W inverter which will take care of an overnight on the hook, no problem. Here's a link to my installation project writeup/photos. Did all the work myself, again, giving me more insight to the workings of our boat.

Good Luck!

Yes, we turned them sideways. It's very challenging to top off the water. My husband rolled his eyes when I bought this, but it does the job and is way easier than mirror and flashlight.

Thanks, that filler looks cool, do they hang off the shelf? This seems like the best solution,, I'll look into it for a winter project,

No, the batteries fit on the shelf. I'll try to remember to get a photo the next time I'm at the yard.

Nancy,
Get those POS terminals covered with protectors, and cover up that duct tape with vinyl tape!

Aye aye sir on the terminal protectors! The duct tape doesn't "do" anything. It's only there to provide something to write on, and only because nothing else was available at the time. Normally, there are lids on the boxes.
