Looking at a 1978 Albin 36 Trawler with single screw 150 hp Perkins.
Owner says it gets great economy, but no speed demon.
Really love this classic.....want the economy but concerned to only have 150 hp.
Also, see I see from others that the hollow core hull is a concern.
Any thoughts from the Albin experts?
Thanks!!

Re: Need advice on 78 Albin Aft 36
Howdy Hi, let me preface the following remarks with this previsio, I am not an Expert. But reason would tell us that cord or not cord the hull has lasted what, 36 years? How bad can the construction be? Have your surveyor check the hull for blisters. Second issue, you mentioned economy was important to you and you were concerned about 150 hp. I do not know the boat, possibly someone who does might weigh in on that issue. All I know is you must feed the ponies, the more ponies in the stable, well you see the trend. Hope some of this is of value. Thanks. Mark. By way of a post script. Spelling and punctuation, solely the responsibly of public education, and me.

Howdy, The 36 Albin has lots of fans here and I'm sure you'll hear from a lot of them. Most trawlers of that size are powered by the 120 HP Lehman. It sounds like you're an old gasser owner. Trawlers (real ones) only do about 7 or 8 knots cruising and maybe 9 or 10 max. When you're running max, they get really thirsty and are definitely not economical. They don't have a hollow core, rather they typically have a balsa cored hull and that's no problem if it's been maintained and hardware has been properly bedded. The cored hull was to give it more strength economically and with less weight. The Albin can be a great vessel if the dumb owners don't screw it up. Hope to see you on here often and good luck with your search. Ben
