Cabin Light LEDs

Post by halfmoon »

The number of LEDs in any particular "bulb" is confusing. Wanting to change the HOT bulbs for LEDs, which size/# do I need? Probably want more power for the single fixture in the head. My cabin light fixtures are steel and get really, really hot. Recommendations.

I'm in the midst of a write-up which I hope to send off to Panbo.com. I'll share it here as well. I've converted almost all of my lighting to LED and there ARE a lot of choices, some of which work better than others.

I'm assuming you have G4 halogen lighting, there's a potential challenge with the disc style LED's and the orientation of the pins. I'll try and post some preliminary info this weekend.

Can you post a pic of your main fixture type? Preferably with the lens off and the socket visible?

Just installed two West Marine LED dome lights in the center of the cabin and the head. These are very bright and only draw 180mA. Check them out at: http://www.westmarine.com/buy/west-mari ... --12645156. I am 100% satisfied.

I gave up trying to identify replacement bulbs. The ones I purchased weren't bright enough except for the all around nav light. Dr. LED makes the perfect replacements for those.

Bought mine from Ebay, cost just short of £10 ($15?) for all of the warm white bulbs in the cabin - just as bright as before with halogens.

Thanks for the tip on eBay. Found a source in the USA too: http://www.ebay.com/itm/301228506740?ss ... 1423.l2649
This is 10 for $12.50 but you can also find them in lower quantities.

Russell and Tree,

Would those ebay T10 bulbs fit in this fixture?

They do indeed Nancy - If I recall the bulb number is 912 but a 921 fits too. They're exactly the same fittings as I have.

I faced the bulbs upwards and got a slightly better spread of light.

Nancy I think Tree is correct but I do not know yet because I am in Pennsylvania for the summer and will order the bulbs after checking the fixtures in my boat. If that picture is from your boat it looks like you already replaced the bulbs.

Russell, yes, I already replaced some of the bulbs, but wouldn't mind having brighter ones, i.e. more LED's, for the remaining fixtures.

The ebay link that I posted was from the same supplier same product where I got mine from - I have got a couple of spares on the boat. If I am not still in a meeting, I'll pop down to the boat at lunchtime and get a photo of one of the spares so you can confirm.

Also If I recall, in my lights there was a sticky label stating the maker, part number etc. I removed this to increase the amount of reflected light.
