Replacement Key

Post by budhod »

I wonder if anyone has had to replace a key to the pilothouse door on a 31TE. I don't have a spare and would like to prepare for worse case.

Went to my local locksmith and he had no idea where to source one.

I've been trying to source the lock set itself since mine is broken. The only place I've found that seems to have the lock set is thebrassworksinc.com It's a 2030 series lock and the part# is 2035z. If you can't find keys that fit I'm sure you could just replace the tumbler. Mine is a 2004 31TE.

Another update. I called today and thebrassworksinc.com doesn't sell to the public. They referred me to George at Seafarer Marine and a new lockset is on the way. I asked him about your key blanks and he said it's hard to tell because there were three different companies who made cylinders for that lock. German and Italian companies. He says if you take the cylinder out and it has any markings on it you can call him and he can probably help with finding blanks. His number is 954 763 4263. Otherwise a new cylinder is about $100 and the part number is 3977. This all of course, is assuming you have the same lockset that I do. Good luck :)

Another source would be Aluminum 2000, the maker of the doors for Albin. To mix it up even more ... the Alaskan bulkhead on my 28 had a lockset from Mobella.

I tried two or three places who said they couldn't match the key type. Finaly found these guys in San Mateo who said "no problem". Had five keys made in 10 minutes.
