ice/fish box for 28

Post by special k »

interested in a large ice/fish box molded to fit over my engine box (28 TE) for offshore use. anyone here done that or know where they can be had. i did see one on a 28 while cod fishing block island couple seasons back. just not enough fish storage for those pelagics and i'd like to keep the deck space clear for battle.

What about engine access if needed when the box is full of ice and fish? Like when you're offshore?

We use Icey Tek boxes here - just been away since Thursday and took the remainder of the bait out of the box this morning when I had five minutes, there was a fair amount of ice left in the box. We use a 70 litre box and can store it on the bathing platform with no issue.

It's the next best thing to having a freezer on deck.

i am well aware of all the high performance coolers out there, just wanted to find one for atop the motor box so decks and dive platform are clear. i've seen them on other boats and one on an albin out of pt. judith. thanks for looking.

How about a stainless steel frame for an ice chest that will work for you. I have seen a basket type stainless steel frame that one can drop an ice chest into on a swim platform. Would think the idea could be used for your engine box and easily removal when you need engine access
The frame was about 5" inches high made to the size of the ice chest.

A high performance cooler like Tree mentions mounted atop the engine box with corner chocks would probably be the best to suite your needs.

Mine was mounted in something similar but to the deck on the old boat - we made use of it as a bait preparation station with rod holders and a meat grinder for making up chum.

Icey tek were even selling them as an option to work around their ice boxes.
