Recreational Craft Directive?

Post by Tree »

Anyone here know anything about this? Were Albins built with one?

I am just trying to find out some model specific information as it appears that any boat imported into the EU needs to be CE approved and so far as I am aware, boats built with RCD cat B approval are easily converted to have a CE certificate applied to them?

Any information is appreciated.

Not the slightest.

Does the fact that they were frequently exported to Canada help you at all?

I doubt that will do anything either Doug. Its all to do with CE marking over here after june 1998 and then there was another change to the bureaucratic paperwork set up by the European Union for all of this.

There must be literally thousands of American imports here that are not CE approved, but form what i can gather it is illegal to sell or even operate a vessel without it.

If the Albin was built to conform with RCD cat B then changing it to CE is easy - its not something I am worried about, if I have to change it then so be, but then so will thousands of other people one would assume. There are over 500 Osprey 24's and 26's in the country anyway!

I had a bear of a time right around 2002 with a piece of equipment we manufactured and delivered to France. I had to do some fancy footwork to get paperwork for all of the electronic components inside to meet the CE requirement. After getting it all done I spoke to a competitor who also had the same problem and he just affixed a CE mark and let it go. No one ever checked either of our marks to ensure they were valid. I thought he was brave but he got away with it.

It seems to be one of those silly laws here set out by European government not upheld here in the UK. Pretty much a law add up to make money it seems.
