27FC Hatch Screens?

Post by Jay Knoll »

Hi Everyone

The refit on Better Days continues, lots of progress, no time for pics but they will be coming, I promise.

We're hopeing to get out on a cruise in early May -- St Johns River perhaps if it doesn't get to hot, and we're trying to figure out how to screen the main and aft cabin hatches. Eventually we will put screening in some of the cockpit enclosure panels, but we don't have time to get that done before we hope to leave. Great planning, the boat has been under construction since October and if I had thought about it the work could have been done months ago.

Anyway, before we try to reinvent the wheel I thought I'd ask if anyone has pics/ideas about how to apply screens. The aft cabin is the real problem with those doors.

Thanks for the assistance

I havent put them on my Albin, but on my Hunter we made screens that attached to the inside of the campanionways and hatches with velcro. They had no frame so they could make the bends and just roll up for storage.

Sorry, been away and a bit busy, anyway we were able to get a local canvas guy to install three U zips in the vinyl one on each side of the cockpit and one in the aft window. Worked great! We spent three weeks cruising the East coast of FL and never had a bug problem. We have Velcro screens on the forward opening window in the pilot house as well as for the two side sliding windows. Lots of ventilation now and we don't have to mess with screens on the hatches

Sorry this is a bit late, but may help on the next trip. We live on the St John an one of the best tricks we have found is to spray your screens with a repellent containing Deet. This will keep out even the tiny no-see-ums. Hope this proves helpfully.
