Good question. I don't know of any literature that mentions it. As for my (somewhat limited) experience with mine id say it depends on what kind of load you have and where that load was located. Obviously, 30 people standing on the bow would be to much. But if you could load that same weight low, say in the cabins it may hold substantial weight.
For practical purposes we have cruise with full fuel tank, full water and somewhere more than 1000# of people and gear and i haven't noticed any differences in performance from the several empty rides i took by myself.
