Dripless shaft seal on my 2001 28 TE

Post by Saltdog »

It seems to be operating great, but I am wondering if any regular service is necessary?

Also it appears almost impossible to access the shaft seal. Does anybody have any insight about this.

Thanks in advance

I just did mine last week; 2001 w a 315 yanmar. Engine was out so it was easy as it will ever be. Replaced w a tides. As for routine mtx interval; I've run a lot of boats and generally have replaced them at 1,000 hrs. Maintaining good water flow is the key to longevity. Mine was at 2000 hours and none of the prior owners had performed a change. Glad I did, it was looking weak! Shouldn't be a problem to swap it out... If you're 4'6" with 4' arms!
