Yet another hello

Post by Veebyes2 »

This one from Bermuda  I've been an Albin owner for 20 years now. Bought a 27 aft cabin new in 1986. Sold it spring of 2000. Bought my 32 in fall of 1999. No intentions of getting another boat.

Been part of the Yahoo Albin group for a number of years too. Not many active 28 or larger owners there.

Let's hope this site attracts an active bunch of Albin owners.

Welcome to the site
The site has been growing and is getting a good compliment of Albin owners.
I have never been to the Bahamas but I hope you can share some of your stories about how you landed there, how long, places that you have been etc.
Only one request, I live up in the north east part of the USA. Our winters are eight months long, try to limit your pictures of beautifuyl sandy beaches during those months. HaHa! Denis 28TE "Red Stripe"

One more question. Do you live there, and if so can you tell me how to get in touch with your stock broker?

I don't know a thing about the Bahamas. The Bahamas are about as close to Bermuda as Atlanta is to Noank.

I have always lived in Bermuda & have almost 25 boat owning years behind me.

Welcome aboard Veebyes2! I can see it now, an Albin gathering in Bermuda. I think I have the range.

A tank of fuel & hull speed might get a 32 a little more than halfway here. The distance is almost 600 miles due east of Cape Hattaras.

Hey, but once you are here, you are in boating heaven.

Sounds like a fun trip, Just load up a dingy with 50 gal. drums of fuel.

Once there, I imagine you'll never want to come back anyway.

Almar, just about all powerboats less than 40' in length have to be brought in by ship. The larger boats either have internal tankage large enough to make the 600 mie trip from Cape Hattaras or carry additional drums of fuel on deck & pick the weather window very carefuly. Once on the ocean there is no port to run to & you are far outside of CG chopper range for most of the way. There is no airbourne or offshore SAR here.

I thought boats ran out to Bermuda from Miami for weekend trips all the time. Or is that the Bahamas?

The Bahamas are only about 90 miles off of miami. I've talked to guys who have taken the same 20' rig i have in a group across. If you pick your weather your only 45 miles from shore at any given point.

Bermuda's a different beast altogeather. It sits out there in the mid atlantic all by itself. I think it's about 600 miles of off hatteras, N.C. although it may be more than that. There's some famous sailboat races from the Chesapeake to Bermuda, but then they don't have the fuel problem.
