I had the same problem with both my VDO tachs/hour tachometers.I sent them to Forster Instruments in Mississauga Ont.Can.They were able to repair them both for about $130.00.
Maybe you could check out someone similar from your area.

Is that LCD display multi-function or just an engine hour clock? If it's simply a tach with engine hours I'd replace it with a Aetna LCD http://www.aetnaengineering.com/8905-LCD-tachometer.asp

Maybe it was just my luck,but on our last boat I had installed the Aetna tach hour meters and had problems with them after the warranty ran out.The hour meter quit on one and Antena would not help me out even though the warranty was about 6 months expired. I think it was only 1 year warranty.The warranty was not really that long to start with for something as important as your tach.I replaced it with another one and low and behold the other ones hour meter messed up the next season,albeit only intermittenly.
On the positive side the digital display is excellent for twin engine application and fact the hour meter does not function unless the engines are turning 600 RPM's or more.
Like I said I may have had just a run of bad luck with mine.I really did like the idea of how they were supposed to function.

I don't care much for digital readout gages for engine monitoring. I would rather take a quick glance at the needle position than have to process actual numbers since monitoring does not require such "precision".

Is there a way I can test to see if the hour meter is working ? as i know the rpms... work i am wondering if the tab next to the bunch is for the hour meter reading?????

I think that is your ground wire connection.

I've been trying to find a wiring diagram, but haven't had any luck. I'm assuming the S+ and S- are the tach, so I'd be inclined to connect 12v to the (non S) + and - and see what happens with the hour meter.

I connected two wires to the bottom two male tabs ... Hooked up to a 12 volt battery and the hour meter showed !!!! So next to check is where the wires would be connected to ???? Any thoughts on where the power would come from ?? Thanks

I would think it would come from your engine on/off key and a ground bus.

I cleaned every contact on every gusge they were all very dark in floor and now are shiney not able to try it as the engine is winterized but I will let you all know when I start it up .
