Thanks to all! I'd love to hear more 31 TE results either here or in the End of Season Totals thread.

I own a 1997 31 TE single 450 Cummins:
fuel burn is unbelievable, very economic. I average just under 6 gallons
a hour eng.& gen set together 5KW westerbeke. I cruise at 2200 RPM 18 knots
Run a 22/22 #3 cup prop.

I have a 31TE with twin Cummins 370's. I cruise at 2050 rpm (18k +/-) and use about 17 gph. My fuel gauge is not working properly, so that is my best estimate over the 200 hours I have had it.

I have the Cummins 450 and find my best cruise is about 18kn and burn around 13gph with a good load of fuel, water, and a case (or 2) of beer plus all the "stuff" that goes along on the trip. Very happy with the performance.

Hi, I am new to the Albin group, and am considering a 1990s Albin 31 TE. reading through this thread the Cummins 450 has been recommended. I am moving from sail after 40 years and am considering a late 1990s TE31 . I have looked closely at a mid 2000s MS30 but much prefer the TE 31 but the price is similar. I could use some help on Cummins engine identification.

One 31 Te boat names a 450hp Cummins 6BT. I cant find specs on that engine. what else identifies the 450 hp Cummins

Another TE 31 names a 300 hp QSB Cummins. What more is needed to identify this engine? Also would it be woefully underpowered even though i dont need a high speed cruising boa and am concerned about fuel use. But would it be hard to resell later on?

Thanks, Doug

Late 90's early 2000's Cummins 450 is the "6CTA 8.3". The 300 is most likely the QSB 6.7 / Hope that this helps.

If you are not close to the vessels of interest, try to get the owner or broker to send you a picture of the identification plate on the engine. You'll then have all the information. Many listings have the model #'s transcribed incorrectly .. at least that's been my experience.

A membership at boatdiesel.com will get you all the info you need on almost any given engine. After almost 2 years of seaching, I just became the owner of a 31TE. Good luck in your search.
