A25 Project update #2

Post by carolinaclassic »

The old Westerbeke 60 is out of the boat and on the shop floor. Any thoughts on should I save this power plant or go with a new/late model used engine of a lower horse power?

I would go with a new yanmar of about 36 to 40 hp if you can make it fit with no modification to the engine box.
My Albin 25 went from a volvo 36 hp md17 c . To a yanmar 3gm30f puts out 27 hp and 24 continually . that's has 4000 hours on it and just hummms . But only gets 7 knots .or so hopefully with a 40 hp you will get a little more speed.

Good luck ,Jim

Thanks Jim, the Yanmar sounds like a good option. I am curious how the boat performed with the 60. It seemed to big for the boat. Dry weight is 713. I am also reading good things about Beta.

Hi, I am a new member just looking at your posts. I repowered my A25 with a 28 hp Kubota which is used by Beta. I get 7.5 knots@ 2400,1 knot more than my old AD21.

I am also curious to why the hull bottoms were changed and what was truly gained. My boat is a 77 so is it capable of higher speeds with the proper horse power?

I repowered from MD17C to Yanmar AJHBE 44 HP. Can get to 8.9 on my Albin 25 Deluxe. Had to have bed modified. Also need to change size of prop as current prop will not allow for max use of available horsepower.
