35TE muffler

Does anyone know how much raw water the Vetus muffler on a 1999 35TE with a
450hp Cummins "C" holds? I have not taken one apart and don't know what the
normal residual water level is in the bottom can, or how it is configured.

I don't have this configuration, but I have noticed that the Vetus on-line catalog is pretty comprehensive. You may be able to reference it for the info you're looking for.

thanks, they don't list the one as big as installed but the volume of the smaller sizes gives me
a rough idea of the capacities. I was worried about the dilution of the antifreeze with the residual
water in the can.

I just winterized Sonny IV this evening! Bittersweet.

I run anti-freeze into the engines via the sea strainer until the exhaust runs pink, and then continue for another two gallons to make sure it's pushed all the water out of the engine. The 370's take about 6 gallons. One thing I do is drain the strainer and fill it with antifreeze before I start so there's no dilution from the water in the strainer. Just straight antifreeze going into the engine. Never had an issue.

that is about what I also used, same technique, but the muffler is huge and altho I get
red out the back, I was concerned about dilution in that huge Vetus "rubbish barrel" of
a muffler.

I understand your concern about the dilution of the antifreeze. That's why I don't stop at the first sign of pink out the exhaust. And honestly, I wait until it's really running pink, and then go two more gallons. If in doubt, go one more.

I also notice your Location shows SC. So I'm guessing you're not getting the sub zero temps we can get hit with. So even with some dilution I'd think you'd be just fine.

Does the muffler have a drain plug like this ?

No my muffler is a vertical "can" type, made by Vetus, almost 30 inches high and about 24inches
in diameter. The next time I have the engine room open, I will take a picture.
