Looking for honest knowledgable dealer
Can anyone recommend an honest knowledgable dealer, preferably in the Middle Chesapeake Bay area (Annapolis) to help me buy an Albin 28 TE?
Thank you,

Contact Mike Titgemeyer at
http://www.crusaderyachts.com/index.htm
They are not an Albin dealer but are knowledgeable and worth your while if searching for a used Albin. I recommend Mike and from my personal experience he is a straight shooter.

Re: Looking for honest knowledgable dealer
Are you looking for a dealer or a broker? I think Albin only has a handful of dealers the only one on the Chesapeake is Sassafras. The others are, i think, all New England based.
If you are looking for a broker I'd recommenced Sundance in Pasadena. Not fancy, not pretentious or pushy.

Re: Looking for honest knowledgable dealer
I'm looking for a 2000-2006 and someone knowledgable and honest to walk me through the process and help me find a well kept clean boat. There are many on yachtworld.com outside of the DC metro area. I contacted Doug Jenkins who is a member / dealer here that posted about a boat in NC. (Doug I hope you are OK with this post) He is in Florida. Is it a terrible idea for me to use a dealer in Florida, buy a boat in NC and have it shipped to MD? You would think I could find a decent boat between Norfolk and Baltimore right? Is everything on yachtworld.com or do you think a good local dealer will have some scoop on a clean local boat? Thank you for all the help.

Re: Looking for honest knowledgable dealer
Yachtworld.com is only for brokered boats, but I think given the prices for TEs most of them will be on there. Boats.com will have private sale boats.
Doug will (hopefully) correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't know what he can do for you with a boat he isn't either brokering himself or where he knows the local broker. And you'll want a survey done as part of the sale (you pay for that).
And don't take this the wrong way...but why would you ship a boat from NC to MD rather than take the trip yourself? It's a great trip!
Good hunting!

Re: Looking for honest knowledgable dealer
Ok so now i hear ya. most boats that are for sale are listed with brokers...not dealers like a car. brokerage is a bit different than dealerships. Most notably the boats are still owned by individuals. its more similar to real estate than cars.
either way most brokers aren't willing to deal on a boat that they aren't brokering. Sometimes brokers in a geographic area will have a gentleman's agreement and work with each other.
You can use most of the tools that a broker can to find a boat. Yachtworld being a more or less comprehensive list of all brokered boats. Private sales are often listed on local classifieds (craigslist, local newspaper, ect). keep an eye out in them.
There is no issue with buying a boat anywhere. The limiting factor is often to cost to relocate, you wouldn't spend $5000 to get a $10,000 boat home, But if it were a 100,000 boat that may sound reasonable.
If you have some buddies you should be able to get the boat your are looking at back to the bay quickly and cheaply from just about anywhere on the east coast.
Enjoy the shopping process. remember this is a toy. you don't NEED it today and there are plenty of boats in the sea. Look it over good with an pessimistic eye (if you have the knowledge) or better yet get a survey done.

How about dealing direct with an honest and knowledgeable seller? I may consider putting TOY-RIFIC on the market.tkav wrote:Can anyone recommend an honest knowledgeable dealer.

Re: Looking for honest knowledgable dealer
Thank you everyone. This is all great advise. Rob I am definitely interested in TOY-RIFIC. Can you send me some pics and specifics? tom AT fulcrumpg.com 703-966-8466. Doug your point about coming up from NC is right on. I took the inter coastal from the bay to Ft Lauderdale then over to Abacos 10 years ago. It was one of the best 3 months of my life. Why the heck would I ever ship a boat from NC to the Chesapeake? I'll keep you posted. If anyone knows of a well taken care of boat for me, please let me know. I'm on the hunt.

Re: Looking for honest knowledgable dealer
After having the pleasure at looking at Rob's boat, I have the following comments:
1. Toy-Rific way too well kept and in order.
2. Everything is where it should be.
3. The engine and all other running gear has been maintained meticulously.
4. The bilge looks like Mr. Clean lives there 24/7.
5. All of the electronics work.
6. An honest and respectable gentlemen.
Just a thought.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving to all you guys out there in Albin land.

Re: Looking for honest knowledgable dealer
Thanks guys (I guess those are compliments not a roasting)
I came down to T-R this morning to get some fuel and then a ride to warm her up for oil and filter change. BUT the ice is thick, waiting for the sun to get a little stronger and for someone else's boat to break the ice first. As high as I could throw a rock she'd come down without breaking through, and I played little league 30 years ago so don't under estimate this arm! So here I sit, on the dock, bundled up and waiting...
