Pull that propeller

Hi all, have you pulled your propeller on your 28TE (1994 in my case ) it looks like I need to pull out the rudder, lower rudder support bearing, the prop on my boat is a 18 x18 and the 300 hp Peninsular eng. Im thinking that the prop may be out of ballance or I may have a bent shaft. I think that I will pull the prop and have it checked first. Then pull the shaft, If I due that, then the dripless shaft seal?? your input plesase. Steve

Hey Steve,

Pulling the prop will REQUIRE a prop puller but does not involve removing anything else. You may have to turn the rudder to one side. I pulled mine this past fall so I could have the prop tuned. The shop doing the work lent me the puller.

If you're pulling the shaft - well, when I bent mine last summer the shop pulled the rudder to get it out.

I hate to sound like I'm selling for anyone but see my post about having my prop tuned - these guys do a complete scan of your prop (for free!) and can give you a detailed, printed analysis. Here's the post:

Steve, I have a 28', 94TE also and I pulled the prop two weeks ago. You do not need to remove the rudder or anything else. I borrowed a prop puller and it came right off. I sent it to the same company Doug sent his to. They have it now and I hope it comes out ok. I have an 18" x 18" prop and I want them to first check it to see what it really is then have him bend it to a 17" pitch. Im trying to pick up a couple hundred RPM's. I am having Standish boat yard coming to my boat this spring to re-pack the stuffing box and to do an alignment. I hope they come out, so far I have not heard back from them to set up an appointment, we'll see what really happens. Denis
