35te Shower Door Catch

Post by whwells »

The folding shower door on this model has hard plastic catch about the size of a dime. They work much like velco but are solid with ridges into which the two sides lock together. Unsure as to whether these catchs or holds were used on in other models. Anyone know where to find replacements. Should be a hardware store issue- but so far have had no luck finding them.

Hi Howard,

Got your note earlier but couldn't remember what we have on Sonny, wanted to get a look before I replied.

I DO have the same "latches" as you. Here's a photo:

It's just about 1" in diameter and both sides seem to be the same. I don't know who makes it but I'll do some searching.

Doug: Must say you are fast and accurate. Will get a dozen ordered for current and future needs. My shower door has been banging all season so it will be great to fix the problem.

Again, thank you for your help and being there for all.

My pleasure Howard, glad I could help.

The guys with 28TE's looking for a catch for their companionway doors could probably use these as well. Very strong little suckers.

Already on order. Cheap enough and no minimum quantity so certainly worth a shot. And they ship USPS so that's a win-win. I am actually concerned they will be too strong. I had tried a canvas snap once upon a time but that was too strong, been using a squeeze clamp for years and it's been fine but this product looks interesting...

Thanks Doug.

I think they'll work just fine Rob, you actually may end up needing two based on the weight of the door. (Top and bottom) They're strong, but not so much that I can't pop the acrylic shower doors apart with one hand. And it's never released on its own despite some decent seas. Let us know what you think once you have them in hand.

(I just zoomed in on my photo - think I should order a couple myself - showing some signs of use!)

Looks like these might be an improvement over the hook with a piece of packing foam wedged in to keep the door from rattling. Really nice that the supplier ships for a few dollars USPS.

Nancy: They also ship US MAIL PRIORITY. Have ordered that way. 3M makes some good products so all should go well, although I will report back on how the company does with the order.

They arrived. The 3M product is identical to those that came on the boat originally. Was able to get a dozen for a very low price including shipment. Sure will be nice to once again have the door latch properly and avoid the banging while underway. Doug Sea once again -thank you for the lead. It will be a while before I am next at the boat but installation will be quite simple.
