Kwik oil filter Q

Post by Sunsetrider »

I can't read the label - which filter for the 1976 MD17C? The manual is no help whatsoever, which strikes me as a little unusually vague. Volvo dealer says he needs the engine ser. # but I cannot find that. If all else fails I suppose I could just remove the old one after adding the fresh oil, bring it into the shop and put it on later . . . :?

Check the pictures of the oil filters displayed at:

http://www.keypart.com/volvo-penta/diesel-engine/md17c

Note that the site is in the UK, but the part numbers might match...

Happy researching,

I'll give Golden Arrow a call in a moment for you, they are one of the UK's leading Volvo dealers who are also one of my clients.

The Volvo Penta web store has this part: 834337 for a MD17C

Here's the full page: http://www.volvopentastore.com/Lubricat ... _id.771792

Searching on the part number gets you lots of hits that may help.

The page I looked at had the number I posted above as the replacement. So is there a third one?

The genealogy of the filter number appears to look like:

1st appearance - 897321 Doug’s source

2nd appearance – 834337 Joe’s source

3rd appearance – 22057107 Tree’s source

The numbers may or may not be prefaced with a “V”. “V” being for a Volvo part, and no prefix is for a replacement part.

Have fun,
Joe

Sunsetrider - Just a silly question, but have you looked for a number directly on the filter? All of my Volvo replacement parts are labeled.

I only had two to go on, the one you had mentioned then the one I had mentioned, after calling the Volvo dealer here, he confirmed that the first one had been superseded - that however may be European numbers and may not apply Stateside.

Sorry to be late getting back (I don't seem to get notice of replies). Anyhow, I could not read all the numbers on the filter, but based on being able to read some of them I think the number is 834337. I found a Fram equivalent with that reference and bought it but have decided to leave the existing filter in until the Spring before re-start. I'll find the official Volvo version before then.

I'll check my settings for notifications.
